Situated in the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area, Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge overlooks the Drakensberg's Sentinel Peak and Amphitheatre. At 2286 metres above sea level, this lodge is the highest in the Northern Drakensberg.

Witsieshoek offers bungalow accommodation with bathrooms.

There is a central restaurant which provides breakfast for visitors. Lunch and dinner are offered on an a la Carte basis, and a pub is open to all guests.

Activities in the area include hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and bird watching. Golden Gate Highlands National Park is 60 km away.

Very Good

The location is unique and spectacular (when it is not cloudy!), with a view of the Amphitheatre, and they will drive you to the Sentinel car park for the spectacular Chainladders hike to the top of Tugela Falls. This the reason for booking here, and for this it gets 10/10. The dining room and bar have a nice atmosphere when full of fellow nature lovers.

The food is rather average. Playing darts was fun, but a pain with only 2 darts - please invest in some new ones, and a new dart board. Wifi did not work in bedrooms.

Great for a quiet getaway

Most rooms have an amazing view. Even though it was cold and windy outside, the room was quiet and warm. Clean room and bathroom. The staff are super nice. Quiet. Great place to chill, walk, and enjoy a quiet weekend

Food not great. Breakfast is way below par, especially for the price one is paying. Would be nice if the rooms had a fridge. Drive through Phutadijaba is quite unpleasant due to it being busy and speed humps. (We were on a bike so traffic was probably a bit easier for us).

Beautiful, but staff need better training.

Absolutely stunning location. Gorgeous mountain views and benches to sit on to enjoy the view. Our room was comfortable.

The staff are badly trained. None of them seemed to know about what needed to be paid for us to hike up the amphitheater and spend the night. The waiters were inattentive. The breakfast buffet had no plates, and very little scrambled eggs - we had to request for both to be brought. The food was average.

Beautiful property, but book the Sentinel room to enjoy it thoroughly.

Amazing location and breathtaking views!

I stayed at this property 5 years ago in one of the Sentinel rooms. I highly recommend staying in one of those rooms, as I didn't book it this time and regretted it as the rooms felt a bit cramped/worn/dated (though still clean). We booked a shuttle at 7:30 to drive to the Sentinel trailhead, and although the breakfast was listed as starting at 7, nothing was out until nearly 7:15, leaving no time to enjoy it before a day long hike, which was an unpleasant start to the day.

Great place to start hikes and sleep in a comfy bed.

Location absolutely epic. Staff and everyone was nice, informative and friendly. Views were incredible. Hikes were amazing. Dinners and breakfast were great.

Room had a few issues that could be fixed. The price of the packed lunch was completely unreasonable.

Amazing stay in the most amazing area with the most amazing views!

Location location location!!! You'll wake up in the morning and have breakfast with the most amazing view from the window. After that they will take you to the sentinel peak car park since it's not accessible without a 4x4. The hike is the most wonderful thing i've ever seen! Especially on a bright day, you can see miles and miles away! You can order a lunch bag at the hotel and eat it with a view down the tugela river. The staff is very nice and helpfull, the rooms are neat and have heated bedding which is very nice since it's pretty cold at night. The dining area has an amazing view, you can have breakfast/dinner there, and they have a bar so you can have a drink next to the fireplace. I would DEFINITELY reccomend!

Location is wonderfull. Restaurant is also good with fair prices.

Rooms are outdated but comfortable, you mainly pay for the location and convenience of being very close to the walks.

I liked the reception staff members,and the owners of that place,they were very friendly and helpful. The location of the place in terms of hiking is user friendly.The rondavels are clean and nicely built. The breakfast was delicious.

The staff members who help with food in the dining area were not friendly enough,the location of the area in terms of cellphone network is a problem,no TV in the rooms,no form of entertainment in the rooms,the wifi only connect in the lounge which is far from the rondavels. The safety is not guaranteed there,even for the cars and it is not easy to call for help since the cellphone networks are not working. Also the electrical wiring is not safe enough,there are no aircon and some fan heaters are not working,the rooms are cold and require us to stay in bed during winter.

Special location for nature lovers and hikers, not for the ordinary tourist.

Perfect location for the Tugela Falls Hike. Transfer and Guide were booked in advance and well organized. A special Thanks to guide Dennis. We can highly recommend him. He could give lots of information about the mountains, the flora and fauna. We felt safe all the way.

There seems to be a big issue with electricity which has nothing to do with loadshedding. There was only power from 6 to 9:30 a.m. and from 5:30 to 10 p.m.. And unfortunately there was no clear communication about that. You don't recognise the whole thing if you are on a hike during the day. But if the weather is bad and you stay in the room you can't use the heater and the kettle to boil water in the room. We had 16 degrees in the room on a stormy day...

A happy stay.

Location, view tops. Food good

Prices actually charged for beers differed from prices quoted on menu. Update menu if this is the case. Duvet feathers were compacted from washing and did not breathe so well. Perhaps a bit more attention to making sure building rubble is collected and doesn't end up around the buildings and grassland.

Location to the hike was excellent, my stay was peaceful, felt safe being a solo traveller.

Breakfast was a sad spread for a vegetarian like myself. Eggs n cheeses was all I could have before my hike. There are other basic options to choose but a little extra options would have been great. Staff were amazing, friendly, sooo helpful and always had a smile.

Had no wifi or connection in my room. Had to keep going outside to catch some signal. It became frustrating specially at night to keep moving from warm to cold.
